Guwahati: In the wake of upcoming Legislative Assembly election scheduled to be held in 2021, Assam is witnessing the emergence of new political parties.
Anchalik Gans Morcha has been formed by the Rajya Sabha member and noted Assamese journalist Ajit Bhuyan while the Asom Sangrami Mancha has been formed under the leadership of Adip Phukan. Reportedly, All Assam Students' Union (AASU) is also working with cross-sections of the society to form a political alternative.
Prithviraj Rabha, son of Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha, said that forming political parties in the manner of Bihu communities and self-help groups will prove to be futile. "All need to come together surpassing their linguistic and racial barriers for their efforts to be effective," he added.
