New Delhi: At a time when Narendra Modi Government has taken strong action against cow slaughter across India, feasting on elephant meat has raised a hue and cry in Northeast.
"Feasting on elephant meat is very serious. Government must take strong action against such incidents and people involved with this," said Ripun Bora, a lawmaker from Assam.
According to the report, people in remote village in Mizoram and Nagaland have been feasting on elephant meat.
Photos circulated in social media of elephants being skinned for consumption in Nagaland's Zunheboto district and Kanhmun forest range in Mizoram have gone viral.
"In fact the Supreme Court has also issued guidelines of taking action for cruelty against such animals," said Bora.
