Amid border dispute, Assam CM meets PM Modi, Amit Shah in New Delhi

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi and briefed them about the prevailing situation in the border area.

New Delhi:Againstthe backdrop of a ghastly border clash betweenAssam and Mizoram on July 26,Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi and briefed them about the prevailing situation in the border area.

Officials close to Sarma told ETV Bharat that the Chief Minister during his interactions with the duo briefed them about the steps being taken to resolve the issue and maintain peace in the area.

Sarma has told the Home Minister that the situation along the border area is under control now. He also informed him about the visit of his cabinet colleagues to the Aizawl and Lailapur border.

In Aizawl, Assam Ministers Atul Bora and Ashok Singhal met with Mizoram government representatives recently following which both the state governments decided to work together to maintain peace in the border area.

After meeting Prime Minister Modi, Sarma said that he has briefed him about the Bodo peace process, Assam’s war against drugs and implementation of various central schemes in the State.

“I called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and apprised him on how the state government has been working to steer and scale-up Assam’s development path as envisaged by the PM,” said Sarma.

Sarma, during the day, also called on Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, DoNER Minister G Kishan Reddy and BJP president JP Nadda.

Sources said that Sarma during his meeting with BJP president Nadda also discussed a possible cabinet expansion of the State government.
