Guwahati:Congress on Saturday expelled Assam Youth Congress president Angkita Dutta from the party for six years, for her "anti-party activities." This came a few days after Dutta accused Indian Youth Congress president Srinivas BV of harassment.
"Hon'ble Congress president has expelled Dr Angkita Dutta, president Congress Assam Pradesh Youth Congress, from the primary membership of the party, for six years for her anti-party activities with immediate effect," read a statement released by the All India Congress Committee (AICC). On Tuesday, Dutta had taken to Twitter to allege that Srinivas was a "sexist and chauvinistic" person. She accused that Srinivas has been harassing and discriminating her on the basis of gender for the last six months. Dutta tweeted that she had informed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi about the matter but no enquiry was conducted.
Dutta alleged Srinivas threatened her with dire consequences if she kept complaining against him to the senior party leaders. Also, she alleged that Srinivas had threatened to ruin her political career during the party's plenary session in Raipur. On Wednesday, Dutta filed a complaint at Dispur police station in this connection.
