28 lakh signatures demand error free NRC

Sachetan Nagarik Manch will submit 28 lakh signatures to President Ram Nath Kovind on Saturday demanding error free National Register of Citizen (NRC) in Assam. The development assumes significance as the Assam government on Wednesday had published an additional draft NRC list excluding names of more than 1 lakh people.

New Delhi: Demanding an error free National Register of Citizen (NRC) in Assam, an Assam based delegation under the banner of Sachetan Nagarik Manch on Saturday will submit papers containing 28 lakh signature to President Ram Nath Kovind.

"There were lots of anomalies in the ongoing updating process of NRC. Even some officials involved in the NRC update process have taken bribes to include suspicious names in the NRC," clamied Chandan Bhattacharya, president of the Manch.

The development assumes significance as the Assam government on Wednesday had published an additional draft NRC list excluding names of more than 1 lakh people.

"We will urge Hon'ble President to intervene into the matter, so that we get an error free NRC," said Bhattacharya.

The Manch on Friday organised a national seminar in New Delhi in support of their demand. The seminar was organised by intellectuals from Assam and Delhi.

As per Supreme Court's guidelines, Government will publish final list NRC on July 31.
