Girl allegedly raped and murdered in Assam tea estate

A 21-year-old girl's body was recovered near a drain in Barbaruah Tea Estate in Assam's Dibrugarh. The parents have termed the incident as a case of rape and murder.

Guwahati: In a suspected case of rape and murder, a 21-year-old girl was found dead near a drain at Barbaruah tea estate in Assam. The incident has sent shock waves across the state with the victim's parents terming the incident as a murder.

According to reports, the victim is a worker at a petrochemical company in Dibrugarh region of the state.

Reportedly, the girl used to go to work at BCPL township at around 6:30 in the morning. But on the day of the incident, she did not reach her workplace and the body was later recovered by tea workers near a drain.

The family members have lodged an FIR at Barbaruah police station alleging it as a case of rape and murder.

Meanwhile, the police have sent the body for post mortem and further investigations are underway.
