YSRC backs EC on EVMs, says Naidu frustrated about losing power

A YSR Congress delegation yesterday met CEC Sunil Arora and thanked the Election Commission for peaceful conduct of polls, and brushed aside AP CM Chandrababu Naidu's complaints over malfunctioning EVMs.

New Delhi:A YSR Congress delegation led by Rajya Sabha MP Vijay Sai Reddy on Monday met Chief Election Commisioner Sunil Arora to thank the commission for the peaceful conduct of polls in Andhra Pradesh.

After submitting a letter to the Election Commission, Reddy told reporters that overall, the conduct of polls was peaceful in the state, barring a few instances of violence which took place only in districts where pro-TDP police was stationed.

Brushing aside AP chief minister and TDP chief Chandrabu Naidu's complaints over malfunctioning EVMs, Reddy said that even Naidu's family cast their votes and even 'posed for photographs'.

He added that around 80 per cent of the populace successfully exercised their franchise without complaining about the EVMs.

Reddy said that though a few glitches were initially reported, the EC team acted swiftly to rectify the situation.

He alleged that Naidu was trying to make an issue of the minor glitches as he sensed he was losing power and was hence frustrated.

The development comes after Naidu targeted the Election Commission again for its stubbornness over use of EVMs without taking adequate measures to prevent their manipulation.

He alleged that the EC tried to mislead the apex court by filing a false affidavit stating that it will take six days to count VVPAT.
