Young girl handed over to CWC six months after mother 'abandoned' her

The mother of a young girl had asked an acquaintance to take care of the child while she went out of town for some work. Though the woman promised she would return in two days, it has been six months now and she has not returned. The child has now been handed over to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC).

Guntur (Andhra Pradesh): A young girl was handed over to the Child Welfare Committee, six months after her mother seemingly disappeared with an acquaintance in Andhra Pradesh's Guntur.

According to reports, a woman and her lover had come to work as watchmen at an apartment building under Pattabhipuram police station limits around six months ago. The woman also had a daughter.

SP Ammireddy comforted the child

The couple worked for around 10 days at the apartment, during which time they got acquainted with another woman working at the building. They told the woman to take care of the child, as they had to visit Hyderabad for some work. They told her that they would return in two days.

However, it has been six months since they left, and the woman has been taking care of the child all along.

However, as her health started deteriorating, and no one to look after her as her husband had passed away long back, the woman took the child to the police.

The woman and the child were then taken to Guntur Urban SP RN Ammireddy, who told the girl to be brave and suggested that she be moved to a government rehabilitation home.

Subsequently, the child was handed over to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC). Officials have been instructed by the SP to take good care of the child.
