Guntur (Andhra Pradesh): Unable to take extreme sexual and mental harassment at the hands of her own husband and father-in-law, a woman lodged a complaint with Additional Superintendent of Police in Guntur.

The victim had married her husband after meeting him at a cloth factory in Guntur. The couple married with consent from their parents. However, the true colours of the man and his parents came out soon after she gave birth to her second daughter. Unable to take any more harassment from her husband, she approached her father-in-law for a resolution.

"He (father-in-law) spoke obscenely to me. He said we need a successor. He asked me to stay with him. He said that he was going to take care of me. I tried to make him understand that it's not normal to talk like that and that I should be treated like his daughter," the victim recounted the ordeal.

Unable to bear the harassment of the men, she took off to her parent's house along with her daughters. However, the ordeal had not yet ended for the victim.

The father-in-law reached the victim's home on the pretext of seeing her children. In the absence of her parents, the man once again assaulted the victim. Ashamed of revealing the matter to her own parents, she informed the matter to her husband. However, to her horror, the man instructed her to get along with his father.

"I asked my mother-in-law if she understood this. I wondered why she simply said that all these were normal and she supported her husband," the victim went on to say.

Later the victim met Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Gangadhar and lodged a complaint. The ASP ordered the concerned police station to take action. The police have registered cases and launched an inquiry into the complaint.
