WATCH: Coconut tree swept away as Godavari breaches bank

An entire coconut tree was swept away as the Godavari river breached its bank in Andhra Pradesh Konaseema region. Heavy downpour in the catchment area of Godavari basin and incessant rains in East and West Godavari districts from July 31 have triggered floods in the region.

Konaseema (Andhra Pradesh): In a chilling sight, an entire coconut tree was seen getting washed away by the raging waters of the swelling Godavari in Konaseema - the river's delta region.

Due to incessant rain in the region for the past few days, the Godavari river was aabove the danger level at the Dowleswaram Barrage.

The region is reeling under floods

As a result, fertile farmlands in the delta region are reeling under flood waters. Coconut groves on the delta islans have been the worst affected

A chilling video from one such delta island shows a fragment of land breaking away, as the raging river breaches its bank.

An entire coconut tree along with the fragment of land is then washed away along with the current.

Heavy downpour in the catchment area of Godavari basin and incessant rains in East and West Godavari districts from July 31 had triggered the floods.

The floods have affected nearly a lakh people. About 19,000 were evacuated from low-lying areas and shifted to relief camps.
