Nellore:An ancient temple dedicated to Lord Nageswara (Shiva) was unearthed in Andhra Pradesh's Nellore district on Tuesday.

The temple was unearthed near Perumallapadu village in the district's Chejarla Mandal.

Villagers believe that the temple, originally established by Lord Parasurama, was located at the bank of the Penna river. However, the temple later got buried under sand.

According to the villagers, the temple structure is 300 years old and is spread across 200 acres. Due to the sand, the village was evacuated 50 years ago and Perumallapadu was built nearby.

Local youth, who were intrigued by the prospect of a temple, started searching for the structure with the help of members from the nearby sand reach. Finally, the temple was unearthed on Tuesday.

During the excavation, a huge crowd had gathered at the spot, and a few women also offered special prayers at the temple site.

Following the unearthing of the temple, villagers informed the endowment department and local authorities.
