UIDAI rectifies goof up, takes cognizance of ETV Bharat story on clone UID

ETV Bharat reported the story of a mother and daughter who were allotted the same UIDAI numbers in their Aadhar cards ten years ago.

Anantapur (Andhra Pradesh): A mother-daughter duo from Veldurthy in Anantpur, Andhra Pradesh finally received unique Aadhar identification numbers after a decade-long struggle with the same UID numbers.

Subbamma and her daughter Jayamma, registered for their Aadhar card in 2011. Even though all the details in the two Aadhaar cards are correct, clone IDs were issued to them.

Since the mother-daughter duo faced issues in availing government schemes. Only one of them was able to avail the benefits of government schemes, because of the same Aadhar number.

Jayamma and Subbamma were made to run from pillar to post to get the issue rectified. The mother and daughter were also disqualified for MGNREG and failed to get job cards, too.

Later, ETV Bharat published an article on the issue, after which Srinath Reddy, a software engineer from the same village helped them raise the issue again with the authorities.

Reddy mailed the video and the clippings of the ETV Bharat article to the UIDAI officials.

All the officers from Delhi to Amravati responded to this issue. The officials reached Subbamma and Jayamma's house and gathered all the identification and biometric details and issued separate Aadhaar cards to the two with different UIDAI numbers.
