Two persons killed by tuskers, four elephants electrocuted, in separate incidents in Andhra Pradesh

Kuppam (Andhra Pradesh): Two persons were killed by elephants in Andhra Pradesh's Chittoor district on Friday while in another incident four elephants have been electrocuted at Katragadda village in Parvathipuram Manyam district. At 5:25 am, a 42-year-old woman identified as Usha was waiting to take a bus to Bengaluru, along with three people at a bus station, when elephants attacked. Usha died on the spot while others managed to escape.

At the same time, the tuskers also killed a 70-year-old man identified as Sivalingam when he went out to relieve himself at 6.30 am. In a separate incident, a herd of four jumbos, a male, two females and a calf have been electrocuted at Katragadda village in Parvathipuram Manyam district in the northeastern part of the state when they tried to uproot an electric transformer. Locals said that a group of six elephants came from Odisha less than six months ago.

On receiving the information, the forest officials reached the spot and started an investigation into the matter. An official said that close contact among the four elephants could have resulted in their instantaneous death due to electrocution. Officials found that the transformer had been moved by the jumbos.
