Vishakhapatnam:Two persons were arrested by Vishakapatnam city police on charges of kidnapping a realtor here, police informed on Saturday.
The accused have been identified as P Ramreddy alias Prathap Reddy, a resident of Chinamushivada and Prasad alias Karnata Prasad, a resident of Guntur district.
According to police, as many as four persons kidnapped one, J Suresh Kumar and demanded a ransom of Rs 5 crore for his release. The kidnappers allegedly threatened Suresh with sharp-edged objects and guns and took them to a house in Parawada.
However, Suresh told them that he could give them Rs 30 lakh that too after mortgaging the gold jewellery. When the kidnappers agreed, they escorted Suresh to his residence to fetch the jewellery from his wife. When he went to his home, his wife refused to part with gold since he had already sold jewellery several times, police said.
Two nabbed for kidnapping a realtor in Andhra Pradesh Speaking to media persons during a presser, city police commissioner RK Meena said," Suresh's son called up 100 and informed the police. When the police arrived in the spot, the kidnappers fled from the scene. Immediately, police launched a manhunt to nab the accused following the complaint lodged by Suresh's son."
"Basing on circumstantial evidence, we identified the accused and arrested them. Further investigation is underway and special teams have been deployed to nab others involved in the case," Meena said.
"Preliminary investigations by the police revealed that the two accused were repeat offenders in rice pulling, cheating, fake currency cases in the past. The same reasons led to the kidnapping of realtor Suresh as well. The two accused in police custody and we have started interrogating them," Meena added.
