Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh): A migrant worker, who was walking towards his home state of Jharkhand, was critically injured after he got hit by a speeding bus in Andhra Pradesh's Krishna district on Friday.
According to reports, a group of 17 migrant workers, who were employed at HCL in Krishna district, started walking towards their home state of Jharkhand.
However, a speeding bus then hit one of them in Gannavaram area.
The man was rushed to the Vijayawada government hospital, where he is undergoing treatment. His condition is said to be critical.
The migrants said that they had been protesting on the highway in front of the HCL campus for the past one week, demanding that they be sent back to their home states.
However, the protests bore no fruit as their demands went unheard and no arrangements were made for them, alleged the migrants.
Though the nationwide lockdown was enforced to arrest the spread of coronavirus, unfortunately, it has adversely affected migrant workers, who are stranded in their places of work with no income.
Though the government has now started ferrying them in buses and trains, many migrants have been taking the long walk back home due to the limited frequency of buses and trains.
