Maoist explosive dump unearthed at AOB

The security forces unearthed a Maoist dump and recovered huge quantity of explosives near the Odisha-Andhra Pradesh border. The explosives were seized during a joint combing operation carried out by the BSF and the Koraput District Voluntary Force (DVF).

Vishakhapatnam: A joint team of BSF and District Voluntary Force (DVF) personnel unearthed a Maoist dump and seized huge cache of explosives from Odisha-Andhra Pradesh border, an official informed on Monday.

Based on an intelligence report about movement of around 20 armed cadres of banned CPI (Maoist), an operation was launched jointly by the BSF Ankadeli and Koraput DVF last night. On spotting the security personnel, however, the ultras fled away.

The team recovered an explosive dump. Soon a Bomb Detection and Disposal (BDD) team was called in and the area was cordoned off. Later, the security personnel unearthed the explosives, the official said.

"The explosives were seized during a joint combing operation carried out by the BSF and the Koraput District Voluntary Force (DVF). The explosives, stored in a drum, were hidden under the soil," informed Koraput SP Mukesh Bhamoo.

"The seized materials include 18 pieces of slurry and emulsion explosives, 500 pieces of gelatin, three camera flashes and 1200 grams splinters. The explosives were dumped by the Maoists with an intention to target the security forces," he said.
