AP: Man dies after falling into Prakasam Barrage

A 70-year-old man died in a tragic incident when he slipped and got washed away in the floodwaters of Prakasam Barrage on Saturday. During the floods, two country-made boats also got washed away in the floodwater from upstream.

Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh):In a tragic incident, an elderly person slipped and got washed away in the floodwaters of Prakasam Barrage on Saturday.

According to sources, around 1 pm, a 70-year-old man leaned over the barrage wall and slipped into the gushing water.

During the floods, two country-made boats also got washed away in the floodwaters from upstream and one of them was found stuck in the Gate No 68 of the Prakasam Barrage, while the other passed through the gates.

With the water levels coming down now, the water resources department started efforts to remove the boat stuck for the past two days. On Saturday, the authorities took the services of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams to remove the boat, but in vain.
