Guntur (Andhra Pradesh): Tension prevailed in Andhra Pradesh's Guntur district, as activists stormed the Guntur district jail as part of the 'Jail Bharo' protest organised against the 'handcuffing' of a few farmers recently.
Activists from the Joint Action Committee Amaravati Parirakshana Samithi stormed the Guntur district jail against the 'handcuffing' and detention of farmers who were protesting against the government.
Political parties like the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Communist Party of India (India) also extended their support to the 'jail bharo' agitation.
Protesters lined the road leading up to the jail and chanted slogans in support of Amaravati as the sole capital of Andhra Pradesh.
Meanwhile, the police had already placed several JAC and political leaders under house arrest to foil the 'jail bharo' bid.
Further, hundreds of policemen cordoned off the Guntur district jail.
