Andhra Pradesh:In what can be described as a notable achievement, Andhra Pradesh's tribal women, who are mostly school dropouts have collaborated with the world's one of the largest e-commerce websites Amazon to sell their whole-grain food products.

Apart from providing quality and healthy products to the countrymen, they are also becoming a part of and benefit from India’s booming digital economy.

A manufacturing unit that was established three years ago in association with the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA), trained around 20 women to produce nutritional biscuits and powder with whole grain wheat and sprouts.

In a bid to promote whole grain products and a healthy lifestyle, ITDA started the unit in which the team was not only trained to manufacture the food products but also how to market them.

Following the training, the women themselves marketed the products in the local markets of Bhubaneswar, Chhattisgarh, Vizag, and Vijayawada and fetched an appropriate price for the same.

Ragi, millets, sausages, soy, pesos, laxatives, glitter, oats and jaggery are formed into a variety of biscuits including sugar-free biscuits, biscuits for diabetic patients among others.

The food products are manufactured by dividing women into two teams who produce biscuits that have high nutritional value.

According to tribal women, whole grain products are helpful in improving health and are also making them financially-equipped.

The entrepreneurship journey has set an example and soon their products will pave the way on Amazon’s global marketplace.
