AP horror: Husband locks wife in dark room for 11 years

A woman locked up by her lawyer-husband for 11 years. The man stops her from visiting her parents, stops them from seeing her, and forces her to live her life in a dark room. Read this shocker of a story from Andhra.

Vizianagaram (AP):A shocking incident has come to light in Andhra Pradesh's Vizianagaram district, where a lawyer confined his wife to indoors for 11 years to keep her away from her parents. The woman, identified as Sai Supriya, was rescued by the police on Wednesday.

The bizarre incident came to light when police reached the house of the accused Godavari Madhusudan with a search warrant following a complaint from the wife’s family and found the victim locked up in a dark room. Police said that Madhusudhan kept his wife’s family in the dark regarding the whereabouts of their daughter and that prompted them to approach the police. According to sources, Madhusudan was provoked by his mother and brother to take this extreme step.

Madhusudhanan got married to Supriya from Andhra Pradesh Puttaparthi in 2008 with the consent of both families. The couple had two children. After the birth of their second child, Madhusudhanan started harassing his wife by keeping her locked up and stopping her from contacting her parents. The lawyer, who, reports claim, is the district vice-chairman of the Human Rights Commission, also stopped his in-laws, especially his father-in-law from meeting their daughter.

Supriya's parents came to her husband's home a few times but were asked to leave and were not allowed to meet her. As it kept happening over and over again, they approached the police who visited Madhusudhan's house on February 28. The accused lawyer, however, did not allow police to search the house and demanded a warrant.

Subsequently, police and Supriya's parents approached the court, and a search warrant was issued. The police arrived at Madhusudan's house the next day and found Supriya in a dark room, where she had been confined for the last 11 years.
