This farmer turns coconut shells into artefacts

With an aim to address the issues of waste management, sustainability and to save the environment this farmer from Andhra Pardesh creatively uses coconut shell, preventing it from being tossed into waste. Satya Sai Baba, farmer turned craftsman has found innovative uses for coconut shells.

Guntur:Craftsmen can show their art in any form and make them unique. They are expert in making something absolutely beautiful out of simple material.

To create a unique object, like create vivid designs and fill it with colours, compose melodies with notes, weaving yarn to make fabric designs, using materials like slay stone, wood, all show the skills of their craftsmanship.

Indian states like Kerala, Tamil Nadu and other coastal states have an abundance of skilled artisans for making coconut crafts.

A farmer-turned-artist Satya Sai Baba from Sajjavaripuram village of Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh shows his creativity by coconut shell craft.

He makes eye-catching miniature designs from waste coconut shells like birds, animals, plum trees, pen stand, and many more.

While speaking to ETV Bharat, Sai said, "To protect the environment, these steps are needed. People throw waste but we create something from it, its good for decorating household as well as for the environment."

Aiming to register his name in Guinness World Records, Sai has received at least 50 awards which include Limca Book of Records, UNESCO Award, Global Peace International Award, The Book of Kerala Records, Exclusive World Record, Telugu Book of Records and more.

To create awareness for his artwork, Sai is organising classes in schools and colleges in the area.

In the era, where artisans are modernising, these craftsmen are keeping the craft alive!
