Chittoor (Andhra Pradesh): In a shocking new development in the Chittoor double murder case, the accused man claimed that her wife Padmaja consumed their daughter's tongue after killing her.

During the investigation, the accused Purushottam Naidu claimed, "My wife Padmaja, who thought of herself as Kalika, cut off our elder daughter Alekhya's tongue and ate it after killing her."

In an indication that even their daughter was influenced by such beliefs, Naidu revealed to the doctors that their daughter Alekhya used to tell him that he was a form of Arjuna.

"It is not your job to teach in college. You must continue the same fighting spirit which Arjuna exhibited while leading the Pandavas," Alekhya used to tell him, Naidu said.

Naidu further revealed that Alekhya used to talk about the Kali Yuga ending and the Satya Yuga beginning, with the belief that the onset of the coronavirus pandemic was an indicator of the same.

Accused parents suffering from mental disorders

Meanwhile, a psychiatrist from the Tirupati RUIA government hospital, where the accused parents have been shifted, said that both Purushottam and Padmaja exhibited symptoms of mental disorder.

The couple was shifted from the Madanapalle sub-jail to the psychiatric ward of the Tirupati RUIA hospital on Friday morning.

According to reports, Padmaja, while answering questions from the doctors, kept repeating that her children would come back from the dead. Meanwhile, Purushottam reportedly broke down while talking to the doctors.

Relatives also suffering from mental illness

Meanwhile, when Padmaja's close relatives were interrogated by psychiatrists, it came to light that her father had also been grappling with mental issues for the past 20 years. Psychiatrists reportedly believe that Padmaja's uncle and deceased daughter Alekhya also had similar problems.

Earlier this month, the highly-educated couple had allegedly killed their two daughters in their 20s at Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh, hoping that they would come back to life within hours due to spiritual power.

Police suspect that the family had apparently been following certain occult practices for some time now.

According to Madanapalle Deputy Superintendent of Police Ravi Manoharachari, it was the mother who bludgeoned the daughters to death.

V Purushottam Naidu, M.Sc, PhD, worked as an associate professor in the Government Women's Degree College in Madanapalle. He was also the College Vice-Principal.

His wife Padmaja, a post-graduate and gold medalist, was Correspondent and Principal of a local private school.

The eldest daughter Aleikhya (27) was doing her post-graduation in Bhopal while the youngest Sai Divya (22) was a ward in the KM Music Conservatory of A R Rahman.

The daughters were staying with their parents since the coronavirus-induced lockdown.

According to the DSP, the family apparently "transcended the peaks of spiritualism," going by their interaction.
