Nearly six lakh rupees was found from the residence of a priest, who had resided in the village for many years. Local residents say that many bundles of cash are yet left to be counted.

Tuni: Around six lakh rupees was found at the residence of the priest at Tuni area of East Godavari district on Tuesday

The incident came to light after the priest, identified as Appala Subhramanyam (70) was found dead at his residence by the villagers.

The residents of the locality informed his family about his demise. His last rites were performed by his son.

After the last rites, the villagers went to his residence and found many bags in the house. They were shocked to find huge amounts of cash in it.

The residents started counting the money but as the amount was huge, they had to bring a cash counting machine.

It took almost two days to count the money and it was concluded to be around six lakh rupees.

Many bundles are yet left to be counted, said, locals.

"He died due to illness. He lived all these days by working as a priest and he also used to beg. Entire Brahman community in Tuni is helping us and are taking care of all the rituals. We will use the money for donation," said Subrahmanyam' son.

Subrahmanyam lived all alone in a house of the village for many years, whereas his son lived in a different village.

He earned his living by begging and on the donations he received.
