East Godavari (Andhra Pradesh): Against the backdrop of several COVID-19 infections rising sharply in India and the country scouring international markets for equipment starting from testing kits to personal protective gear, the Pals Plush Industry in Kothamulapeta area of Andhra Pradesh's East Godavari district has set to develop the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the medical, paramedical and other personnel to keep safe from the coronavirus.

According to sources, Pals Plush Industry has been chosen by state administrative authorities and it is capable of producing about 4,000 suits per day.

"These suits are made with vinyl cloth. Four days training programme has been given to the people for making suits. Necessary equipment have been brought from other states. The samples have already been approved and we have already started the preparations. We are identifying more manpower who will be involved in the production of these suits," a district administration official said.

"We have decided that up to two thousand suits will be made per day. Tailors from surrounding areas including Uppada, Pithapuram, and Moolapeta are helping to manufacture the PPE kits," an employee of the industry said.

The DRDA director has also visited the industry and decided that the production capacity of PPE kits would be adequately supplied to the entire state and other states also, sources added.

Reportedly, PPE is a personal protective suit which besides the nurses and doctors are also worn by the security forces. These suits are capable of protecting the user from deadly viruses like novel coronavirus or COVID-19.
