Andhra govt-appointed volunteer's confrontation with villagers leave one dead, 3 injured

A farmer in Andhra Pradesh's Kadapa district was killed after he got into a confrontation with the village volunteer and his relatives, all from the same village. The volunteer's family attacked the farmer's family, killing him and injuring three others. the police have registered a case against the village volunteer and 11 others in connection with the murder.

Kadapa (Andhra Pradesh):The little controversy that had arisen over government-supplied peanut seeds has snowballed into a big clash claiming the life of a farmer in an Andhra village. The incident of a farmer being killed by the government-appointed volunteer at Vaddepalli, west of Chinnamandem Mandal, Kadapa district after a clash broke out between him and the villagers came to light.

According to a police report, a farmer named Sankaraiah from the village Vaddepalli had got the government subsidised seeds. The village volunteer's relatives from the same village came to Sankaraiah claiming that the seeds were given to him because of their recommendation. Sankaraiah disagreed saying he had got the seeds as he had paid for them. Soon it resulted in a confrontation escalating into a clash.

Reddiah, a close relative of Sankaraiah was seriously injured in the clash. Sankaraiah and some others took him to the Government Hospital in Rayachoti and returned to the village at 11.30 on Friday night. The village volunteer Srinivasulu who already knew the matter, along with a few others, killed Sankaraiah and threatened to kill their relatives.

Sankaraiah's wife Neeraja and three others were attacked and they were seriously injured. Doctors said one of the injured Mahesh is in a critical condition.

After learning about the incident, Rayachoti Rural CI Lingappa, Trainee DSP and Chinnamandem police reached the village and brought the situation under control.

Sankaraiah is survived by three daughters. Rayachoti Rural CI Lingappa said that the case has been filed against village volunteer Srinivasulu and 11 others in connection with the murder and investigation is ongoing.
