40 Black Fungus patients do not have Covid-19 history: Andhra Health Dept

While apprising about the Mucormycosis situation in Andhra Pradesh, State Health Department informed Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy that out of 1,179 Black Fungus cases, 40 patients did not have Covid-19 history.

Amaravati:Andhra PradeshChief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Monday held a review meeting on the prevailing Covid-19 situation, vaccination drive and surging cases on Black Fungus across the state.

State Health officials informed the Chief Minister that 1,179 Black Fungus cases are currently active in the state with 1,068 patients being treated, 97 people recovered and 14 people dead.

Their latest observation revealed that Black Fungus has been developed in few patients who were previously not infected by Covid-19.

"1,139 patients were infected with COVID-19 and 40 people were infected with Black Fungus without having exposed to COVID earlier," said Anil Kumar Singhal, Principal Secretary (Health).

According to the latest study, diabetic patients are more likely to get infected with Black Fungus and Black Fungus largely affected men as compared to women.

CM Jagan Mohan Reddy has directed the officials to intensify efforts to make life-saving drugs and injections available for the treatment of Mucormycosis.

The officials informed that Amphotericin-B and Posaconazole injections are being supplied by the Centre and efforts are on to arrange alternative injections to cure people from Black Fungus,

"In the week up to June 6, only 5,000 Amphotericin-B and 2,000 Posaconazole injections are expected to be available," they said.
