New York: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic beat close friend and hitting partner Donna Vekic of Croatia on Wednesday, to reach her first grand slam semi-final at the US Open.

Serving at 0-1, 30-30 at the start of the second set, a defensive backhand struck the top of the net... the ball flew up, hit the tape again and fell gently on to Vekic's side.Bencic went on to win the match 7-6(5), 6-3.
