Davis Cup committee to decide venue for India-Pakistan tie

The AITA had restated that the ongoing tension between the two countries and had demanded the ITF to take a suo moto decision to either postpone Davis Cup tie or shift it to a neutral venue.

New Delhi: The International Tennis Federation (ITF) decided to let the Davis Cup Committee take a call on the future of India-Pakistan tie scheduled to be take place in Islamabad on September 14 and 15.

With time running out, the ITF's efforts to impress the All India Tennis Association(AITA) about the strong security arrangements at the venue looks like going in vain.

Also, the pre planned tele-conference between the Davis Cup team captain Mahesh Bhupati, the AITA, the ITF and the concerned security agency in Pakistan, got postponed.

Davis Cup tie between India and Pakistan is scheduled to take place in Islamabad in September.

Meanwhile, the Davis Cup Committee-consisting of with chairman Ismail El Shafei of Egypt and seven members including Olympic gold winner and several Grand Slam champion Mark Woodforde of Australia will look after the matter along with the national federations concerned.The AITA had restated that the ongoing tension between the two countries and had demanded the ITF to take a suo moto decision to either postpone the tie or shift it to a neutral venue.Once the Davis Cup Committee takes a decision on the subject, it will convey the same to the ITF Board Of Directors, for suitable next step.
