WATCH: WADA explain Russia's 4-year ban from international sport

The World Anti-Doping Agency on Monday confirmed a four-year ban from all major global sporting events, after considering recommendations from its independent compliance review committee (CRC) that Russia had manipulated laboratory doping data.

Switzerland: Russia has been banned from the 2020 Olympics and the 2022 football World Cup.

However, Russia will be able to compete at Euro 2020 next summer, having qualified for an event that will see some games take place in St Petersburgs.

The World Anti-Doping Agency on Monday confirmed a four-year ban from all major global sporting events, after considering recommendations from its independent compliance review committee (CRC) that Russia had manipulated laboratory doping data.

Russian athletes will be able to compete under a neutral flag and they will be allowed to compete in major events only if they are not implicated in positive doping tests or their data was not manipulated, according to the WADA ruling.

Russia now has 21 days to lodge an appeal with the Swiss-based Court of Arbitration for Sport. If unsuccessful, its ouster will stretch to events well beyond the Olympics, including football World Cup.

Interestingly, Russia have been banned from competing as a nation in athletics since 2015.
