Hyderabad: The International Sports day is celebrated on April 6 across the globe. The day is recognized for promoting peace and development by erasing cultural barriers.

Due to the efforts of the founder of the International Olympic Committee and the father of modern Olympic Games, the French historian Pierre de Coubertin, the first modern Olympic Games in Athens began on April 6, 1896. This is why 6th April is recognized as the International Sports Day.

The first International Sports day was celebrated on April 6, 2014. On August 23, 2013, the United Nation had declared that every year on April 6, International Sports day would be celebrated. The opening of the first modern Olympic Games in Athens in 1896 was also on April 6.
