Hyderabad:Take a look at the important sports stories that failed to receive its due recognition.

• Jamshedpur’s seventeen-year-old Komalika Bari defeated Japan's Waka Sonoda in the recurve cadet women's final to win gold at the 2019 World Archery Youth Championships. In doing so, Bari become the third Indian archer to hold a world title. Interestingly, this was the last tournament for the Indian archers to play under the national flag as the world archery’s suspension of the country will come into effect after this event.

• World No. 1 Pramod Bhagat and Manasi Joshi bagged the top honours as India finished third in the medal tally by clinching 12 medals at the 2019 BWF Para-Badminton World Championships. While Bhagat won gold in Men’s Singles SL3 category, Joshi defeated compatriot Parul Parmer in the women’s singles SL3 finals.

• The sixth season of the Indian Super League is set to witness a franchise overhaul with a new team from Hyderabad replacing FC Pune City. Earlier, Pune City FC had announced their decision of shutting down operations.

• Elavenil Valarivan created history as she became the third Indian shooter after Apurvi Chandela and Anjali Bhagwat to win a senior ISSF World Cup gold in the 10m women’s Air Rifle category. Meanwhile, in the men’s 10m air pistol event, Abhishek Verma clinched gold while Saurabh Chaudhary bagged bronze.

In the inaugural edition of the ‘Awards for Asia’ ceremony held in Kuala Lumpur organized by the Asian Sportswriters Union (AIPS Asia), ace Indian boxer Mary Kom was named Best Asian Female Athlete. Meanwhile, the Best Asian Male Athlete award went to South Korea’s footballer Son Heung-Min.

Jamaican fast bowler Cecil Wright has announced his retirement from the game at the age of 85. Wright launched his career as a professional in England's Central Lancashire League for Crompton and took over 7,000 wickets in his 60-year-long career. At one point in his career, he took 538 wickets in five seasons, averaging one wicket every 27 balls.

Romania registered the biggest-ever victory in T20I cricket history after defeating Turkey by 173 runs in the Continental Cricket Cup. Romania put up a total of 226 for 6 in their 20 overs, helped by Tamil Nadu-born software professional SIVAKUMAR PERIYALWAR's 105 not out. The previous record for the biggest ever T20I victory was held by Sri Lanka in which they won by 172 runs against Kenya in 2007.
