Taipei City, Chinese Taipei: Indian shuttler Jerlin Anika, a Madurai born player, won gold medal at the International Deaf Youth Badminton Championship.
J. Jerlin Anika is a 16-year-old Badminton player of Avvai Government School in Madurai. She bagged a gold medal in 2nd International Deaf Youth Badminton Championship that was held in Taipei City, Chinese Taipei.
She has also won two silvers in the same competition.
The competition that started on July 11th will wind up on July 22nd. The competition saw 200 athletes from more than 27 nations, which included participants from Germany, USA, France, Canada, Japan, Russia, and Pakistan.
"Every single shot of Jerlin earned appreciation from the audience. She won silver medals in doubles and mixed doubles category. The German player Finja Rosandahl gave a tough fight to Jerlin.
"Our daughter also won medals in Asia-Pacific competition which happened in Malaysia. I'm sure my daughter will win medals in 2020 Olympics. I have so many convictions for the made statement.
"I would like to extend my gratitude to Jerlin's coach Saravanan, Assistant Coach Naveen and her School Head Master, Teacher, and her friends. Tamil Nadu government has announced in recent times that if physically-challenged people participate in International Tournaments, they will be rewarded with funds. We are happy Jerlin won medals in this moment," Jerin's happy parents claimed.
