Hyderabad: The Indian 4x400 metres mixed relay team comprising of Mohammed Anas, V.K. Vismaya, Jisna Mathew and Noah Nirmal Tom created history by becoming first Indian team to qualify for an athletic event at the 2020 Olympics.
The Kerala quartet finished third at Heat 2 and booked their Olympics berth, with a time of 3:16.14s. The Indian team finished behind Poland and Brazil.
In the final, Anas demonstrated India's bid from Lane 8 and was leading the pack during the baton exchange.
Vismaya failed to carry on the momentum and slipped to the bottom of the pack.
Jisna, upon receiving the baton from Vismaya, collided with a 2nd leg opponent.
It affected India's momentum again as she finished last. But Noah sprinted hard and powered India to 7th place finish
In the final, India finished seventh ahead of Brazil, with a season-best timing of 3:15.71s.
