Hangzhou: India archers duo Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Ojas Pravin Deotale clinched gold in the compound mixed team archery event in the ongoing Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.
The Indian duo equalling its Asian Games record set in the qualification round beat South Korea’s So Chaewon and Joo Jaehoon 159-158 on Monday. This is the first gold for Archery in the ongoing Asian Games.
India has surpaased its previous best medal tally of 70 medals in Jakarta 2018. Now, India has 71 medals scomprising 16 gold, 26 silver and 29 bronze. With this victory, India has also equaled its tally of most 16 gold medals in a single edition of the Asian Games.

Earlier, the Indian pair advanced to the final of the mixed team compound archery at the Asian Games on Wednesday. Jyothi-Pravin defeated Kazakhstan's Adel Zhexenbinova and Andrey Tyutyunto 159-155. The pair had moved to the semi-final after beating the Malaysian team by a scoreline of 158 - 155 on Wednesday.
The Recurve Mixed Team will also be in action and will compete for a medal.
