Birthday special: Flying Sikh Milkha Singh turns 90
Milka, who is credited to put India on the world map in track and field, will celebrate the day with his family at his residence.
Milkha bagged gold medals in the 1958 and 1962 Asian Games. And interestingly, he was the only Indian athlete to win an individual athletics gold medal at a CWG until Krishna Poonia won the discus gold medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
“I am thankful to the almighty…It’s like any other day for me and I will be playing golf and going for my run in the morning. As always, I don’t believe in celebrating my birthday in a grand manner and have a party. Since my grandson Harjai Milkha Singh wants me to celebrate the birthday, we will cut a cake in the evening…To see my fans and the youngsters remain fit and believing in doing a physical activity daily will be my biggest gift from them and I am glad that I can inspire younger generation to pursue sport,” Milkha Singh told a leading English daily.
