Sweden: Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s legacy at Malmo, the Swedish football club where he started his illustrious career, looks to be in tatters after he bought a stake of nearly 25 per cent in one of its biggest rivals, Hammarby.
Fans vandalised Zlatan Ibrahimovic's statue "I think he is a piece of shit, if I am being really honest. Lately, he has said some idiotic things," said Karl, a Malmo fan, before placing a toilet seat on the head of Ibrahimovic’s statue.
In addition to the toilet seat, a plastic bag was put over his face and the statue was painted over in white on Wednesday, leading to the monument requiring police protection during the afternoon.
"You should never forget where you come from, he usually says. He obviously did," added Karl.
Sweden’s biggest sports star outlined his desire to make Hammarby the “best in Scandinavia” after becoming a part-owner of the Stockholm-based club in his first move into club ownership.
