Madrid: Diego Godin has confirmed he will bring his nine-year stay at Atletico Madrid to an end this summer.
The club captain and Uruguay defender announced at a press conference on Tuesday that he will leave the Wanda Metropolitano when his contract expires following the end of this season.
Diego Godin says goodbye to Atletico Madrid ''I wanted you to hear it from me, from my mouth, I wanted to tell you myself, for the affection that I feel for all of you, for this club, for this team, for this jersey,'' said a tearful Godin.
Godin joined Los Rojiblancos from Villarreal in 2010 and enjoyed huge success in the capital, winning the La Liga title in the 2013-14 campaign and twice lifting the Europa League trophy.
Godin, who will have the opportunity to say goodbye to Atletico's supporters at their final home game of the season against Sevilla on Sunday, has been linked with a move to Serie A.
