WATCH: RB Leipzig defeat FC Koln 4-2, climb to third spot on Bundesliga table

After registering a win, RB Leipzig has climbed to the third spot on Bundesliga table with 58 points, only behind Bayern Munich (67) and Borussia Dortmund (60).

Cologne [Germany]: RB Leipzig defeated FC Koln by 4-2 in the ongoing Bundesliga here on Tuesday.

Interestingly, it was the first Bundesliga match played in June for 25 years, delayed from its original scheduled date in mid-April due to the league’s coronavirus-induced break.

Jhon Cordoba scored the opening goal of the match in the seventh minute, putting FC Koln ahead of RB Leipzig. However, RB Leipzig did not take much time level the scores as Patrik Schick netted a goal in the 20th minute.

Christopher Nkunku then scored a goal to hand RB Leipzig a one-goal lead before the first-half came to an end. Timo Werner extended the lead shortly after the break through an assist made by Leipzig goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi.

The hosts cut the deficit thanks to a wonderful Anthony Modeste's strike in the 55th minute. However, two minutes later, Leipzig restored their two-goal lead as Dani Olmo struck his first Bundesliga goal.

After registering a win, RB Leipzig has climbed to the third spot on Bundesliga table with 58 points, only behind Bayern Munich (67) and Borussia Dortmund (60).

Cologne has claimed just two points from the five games it has played without supporters.

Noticeably, fans are banned from Bundesliga stadiums for the rest of the season to reduce the risk of another virus outbreak.

Cologne was supported only by stuffed toys left by loyal fans and team jerseys draped over empty seats.

Leipzig, on the other hand, has thrived in the absence of away supporters, wracking up nine goals in two away games since the league resumed on May 16th.
