England: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is dealing with a number of injury headaches ahead of Manchester United's crunch clash with Liverpool after confirming goalkeeper David De Gea is likely to be sidelined.

Star midfielder Paul Pogba is definitely out of the match with an ongoing ankle issue and De Gea pulled up with a groin complaint on international duty.

Meanwhile, Ole praised Liverpool for their rich form but also claimed that the game will be a perfect opportunity for United players to gain back their confidence.

"They are doing well in the league, that's for sure. We're looking forward to this game. I think it's the perfect game for our players. Perfect game for our fans because we've had a tough time, a difficult time lately. So I'm sure we'll give them a good game," Ole said.

"The staff, the players, they know when it's Liverpool coming up, it's a game that's going to be watched by so many. When you sign for Manchester United, this is the first one you look forward to every year when the fixture list comes out at home to one of the main rivals has always been a big fixture. It's a chance for them (the players) as I did a couple of times, to get in the history books to score a winner against Liverpool and that's always going to be there with them," he added.

Anthony Martial and Aaron Wan-Bissaka could return against Liverpool on Sunday, but question marks hang over the likes of Jesse Lingard, Phil Jones, Luke Shaw, Diogo Dalot and Mason Greenwood.

"Of course, I would like to tell you positive news, hopefully... we'll see on Sunday who's come through the last two sessions," Solskjaer said.
