Virgil van Dijk wins PFA Player of the Year award

Dijk beat Raheem Sterling, Bernardo Silva, Sergio Aguero, Sadio Mane and Eden Hazard in the competition which was decided on a vote by his fellow players.

London: Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has won the PFA Players' of the Year award after a sterling Premier League season.

The Netherlands international edged out Raheem Sterling, Bernardo Silva, Sergio Aguero, Sadio Mane and Eden Hazard in the competition which was decided on a vote by his fellow players.

Though Sterling missed the coveted award he didn't leave empty hand as he has been adjudged men's Young Player of the year,

Arsenal forward Vivianne Miedema won the women's player of the award beating Steph Houghton, Nikita Parris, Keira Walsh, Erin Cuthbert and Ji So-yun. Van Dijk succeeded Liverpool team-mate Mohamed Salah and became the first defender to take the award since Chelsea centre-back John Terry in 2004-05.
