Rio De Janeiro : Decision of expansion of teams, from 32 to 48 in Qatar world cup to be held in 2022, hangs in balance.
FiFA president Giuseppe Infantino said in Brazil that all angles are being looked upon to see whether it's possible to implement the 48 team tournament from Qatar 2022 itself. “We are working to see if we can get 48 teams in the 2022 World Cup because more participation means more development and more passion for everyone,” he said.

It's for sure that 2026 world cup to be hosted jointly by United States , Canada and Mexico will be a 48 team event.
48 team tournament will guarantee two extra berths for the South American continent.
A final decision on the number of teams for the next finals will be taken at the FIFA Congress to be held in Paris on June 5.Infantino however assured that 2022 world cup will be a spectacular one and claimed that it will be most successful world cup ever.On being asked whether Qatar will have enough venues in case of 48 team tournament , FIFA boss said in that situation some matches will be staged in the neighbouring countries of Qatar.
