La Liga can resume from 8 June, says Spain's prime minister

The players of the Spanish league started training in groups of no more than 10 at the start of the week.

Madrid: Spain's prime minister Pedro Sanchez on Saturday announced that La Liga can resume from 8 June amid COVID-19 pandemic.

Earlier, La Liga chief Javier Tebas had said he is hoping Spain's top flight would restart on 12 June. It must be noted that La Liga has still not announced a restart date.

The players of the Spanish league started training in groups of no more than 10 at the start of the week.

"Spain has done what it should and now new horizons are opening for everyone. The time has come to bring back many day-to-day activities," said Sanchez.

"From 8 June, La Liga will be back.”

It has also been learned that Spain’s second division is also set to make its comeback at the same time as their top-flight.

"We are very pleased with the decision," said Tebas, before adding, ”It is the result of the great work of clubs, players, coaches, CSD (National Sports Council) and agents.

"But we cannot lower our guard, it is important to follow health regulations and ensure the pandemic doesn't come back."
