Big loss for DC United says Frederic Brillant on Rooney's departure

The former Manchester United striker will return to English football after signing for second-tier side Derby County as a player-coach.

Washington: A day after Wayne Rooney announced his departure at the end of the season, D.C. United defender Frédéric Brillant has expressed that it will be a big loss for the team.

"Wayne is a very good player. He prove a lot when he came. He scores a lot of goals. He's a leader for the team. So, it's going to be a big loss for us next year but his still a DC United player for this year so we're happy," said Frédéric.

"Yeah, when you are this kind of player that won almost everything and he has the leadership. So, he helped the young players even the older player. We try to follow him all the time. So like I say, it's going to be a big loss for us but we are...because he stays until the end of the season," he added.

The former Manchester United striker will return to English football after signing for second-tier side Derby County as a player-coach.

The 33-year-old will stay at DC United until their season ends in November, before joining Derby County in January.

Rooney is England's all-time record scorer with 53 goals in 120 appearances, as well as Manchester United's record goalscorer with 253 goals in 559 appearances.
