Hyderabad: Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma must have been disappointed when their Sri Lankan superstar Lasith Malinga decided to leave Indian Premier League to participate in the domestic tournament.

However, Malinga's absence gave MI the opportunity to test their newest Windies signing Alzarri Joseph, who made his impact felt on the very first day of his debut.

Joseph on his very first ball in IPL dismissed the in-form David Warner and the rest was history. He finished the match with six wickets haul giving mere 12 runs in 3.4 overs against much-fancied Sunrisers Hyderabad.

The overnight hero of MI, Joseph, now holds the best bowling figure in the history of IPL. Before Joesph the record used to belong to Pakistani bowler Sohail Tanvir.

Tanvir had picked six wickets conceding just 14 runs for Rajasthan Royals in the inaugural edition of the cash-rich league.

The Jamaican was signed by Mumbai Indians after Adam Milne was ruled out of the tournament due to an injury.

Joseph became the talking point among cricket enthusiasts after his outstanding performance in Under-19 World Cup 2016 led Windies to title clinch. He finished the tournament as the third joint highest wicket-taker with 13 wickets at an economy rate of just 3.31.

After his exploits in the U-19 World cup, Windies bowling great Ian Bishop had then said that he should be fast-tracked to the Test team.

The 22-year-old fast bowler made his debut in first-class cricket in November 2014 with the Leeward Islands. Joseph made his mark on first-class cricket in the following year when he picked seven wickets against the Windward Islands.

Joseph made his Windies debut in the longest format of the game against India in August 2016. In the same year in October, he made his ODI debut against Pakistan.
He notched his best bowling figure in the fifty overs game against England in 2017 when he picked up five wickets giving just 56 runs.
