Starc, who was high on demand amongst the bowlers in 2018 IPL auction, bagged the second most lucrative deal as an Australian player after Chris Lynn. According to media reports in Australia, the speedster filed the lawsuit at the Victorian county court against the insurers of his whopping deal to play for the Kolkata franchise in the cash-rich T20 league.
Starc, who has been plagued with injuries, failed to bowl a delivery during the 11th edition of IPL. The left-arm fast bowler suffered a calf muscle injury in the second Test against South Africa in Port Elizabeth in March 2018, before succumbing to a fracture of his right tibial bone in the third Test in Cape Town. According to court papers, Starc claimed $1.53m compensation, which he deserves to be paid according to the insurance if he misses out an entire IPL season due to injury.
According to the lawsuit Starc paid a premium of $97,920 to secure his deal with KKR between 27 February and 31 March in 2018 when the tournament ended. It is learnt that the insurance also covered full medical complications excluding the old injuries.
