Bairstow, Warner lead show as SRH beat KKR by 9 wickets

SRH now have 10 points from nine games and moved to the fourth spot on the point table.

Hyderabad: Sunrisers Hyderabad openers David Warner and Jonny Bairstow led from the front as SRH thrashed troubling Kolkata Knight Riders by nine wickets in an Indian Premier League encounter on Sunday at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

Hyderabad reached 160 with five overs to spare. With the win, SRH now have 10 points from nine games and moved to the fourth spot on the point table.

Chasing a mediocre target of 160 runs, Hyderabad's openers gave their side a flying start as they scored 72 runs in powerplay without losing any wickets. Both Warner and Bairstow hammered KKR bowlers all over the park as the duo reached their fifties in the 1st and third ball of the tenth over.

In the 13th over, Yarra Prithviraj removed the dangerous looking Warner from the attack but it was a bit too late as SRH already had one foot in their mouth.

During his stay, David Warner smashed 67 runs off 38 balls, while his opening partner Bairstow scored 80 runs off 42 balls.

SRH skipper Kane Williamson scored 8 runs of nine balls.For KKR, Prithviraj picked one wicket.Earlier, Kolkata Knight Riders Australian opener Chris Lynn scored 51 runs off 47 balls as the visitors posted a modest total of 159 runs for the loss of eight wickets.Put into bat first, Kolkata openers Sunil Narine and Chris Lynn gave KKR a flying start by smashing 42 runs in just 2.3 overs. Young left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed draws the first blood by removing dangerous Narine from the attack.During his short stay at the crease, Narine did all the damage he could have done by smashing 25 runs off 8 balls with the help three fours and two sixes.After Narine's departure, SRH was able to put a speed breaker on KKR's innings as the visitors amassed just 41 runs in next 5.2 overs and lost three wickets including that of Dinesh Karthik.While Karthik was run out by Vijay Shankankar and Johnny Bairstow, KKR's last match hero was removed from the attack by SRH's vice-captain Bhuvneshwar Kumar.Rink Singh joined Chris Lynn in the middle in ninth over when KKR was reeling at 73/4 in 8.2 overs. Rinku along with Lynn tried to stabilised Kolkata's inning as the duo added 51 runs for the fifth wicket. Rinku scored 30 runs off 25 balls.Explosive West Indies all-rounder joined Lynn at the crease in the 16th over after Rinku was removed by Sandeep Sharma and soon K Ahmed removed Lynn. Chris Lynn smashed 51 runs off 47 balls. During his 51 runs knock, Lynn smashed four fours and one maximum.For Hyderabad, Khaleel Ahmed was the star with the ball. The youngster picked three-wicket giving away just 33 runs in his fours overs.
