I went to USA to meet relatives, not involved with American T-20 league: Unmukt Chand

The former U-19 World Cup winning skipper said he visited USA to meet his relatives.

Hyderabad: Refuting Pakistani cricketer Sami Aslam claims that he has moved to the USA to participate in the Major League Cricket, former India U-19 skipper Unmukt Chand termed it as a 'leisure trip', saying he only went out for a few training sessions and hasn't signed anything formally with the league.

"I had gone to the USA to visit my relatives, and of course when there, I went for a bat or two — just to practise. I had gone to the training session just because I had come here, but I have done nothing like signing anything in the USA,” Chand told a leading media organisation.

In a statement to a Pakistani media outlet, Aslam had claimed that Chand was among the many foreign cricketers who was recruited by the American cricket administration for ‘Major League Cricket’.

"30 or 40 foreign players have arrived in America recently. A few former Under-19 Indian players have also arrived, including Unmukt Chand, Smit Patel and Harmeet Singh," Aslam had said.

However, it has come to light that Chand visited USA to meet his relatives.

According to the rules of BCCI, a player cannot be allowed to play in a foreign league outside the country until he/she announces retirement.

In previous instances, Yuvraj Singh had to take retirement before opting for T20 Leagues overseas while Harbhajan Singh pulled out his name from The Hundred’s draft.
