Rishabh Pant shifted to Mumbai's Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital for treatment of ligament injuries

Dehradun:Cricketer Rishabh Pant was shifted out of Dehradun to Mumbai on Wednesday for treatment of ligament injuries in his knee and ankle. He was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Dehradun, Uttarakhand after the Mercedes Benz GLC coupe he was driving crashed on December 30.

"Rishabh was shifted to Mumbai for diagnosis and treatment of his ligament injuries and decide upon the further course of action. He is expected to be under the supervision of BCCI-empanelled renowned sports orthopaedic Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala. If there is advice for surgery, a call will be taken if it will happen in the UK or USA," BCCI sources said.

Pant was admitted to H N Reliance Foundation Hospital and Research Centre in Mumbai where he will undergo surgery and subsequent procedures for ligament tears and will continue to be monitored by the BCCI Medical Team throughout, the sources said. Shyam Sharma, director of DDCA also confirmed Pant was shifted to Mumbai for further treatment.

The cricketer was driving to Roorkee from Delhi when the mishap occurred on the Narsan border of Roorkee. He was moved to the Max Hospital in Dehradun for further treatment after providing the initial treatment at Saksham hospital in Roorkee and is on the road to recovery.

On the present condition of the cricketer, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that Rishabh Pant told him that the accident was caused due to a pothole. "He lost his control of the vehicle while trying to avoid the pothole," Dhami had told the media. However, the NHAI officials have denied it.

Rishabh Pant who suffered a ligament tear in his right knee will be treated under the supervision of the medical team of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Pant sustained cuts on his forehead, a severely-bruised back along with injuries in his knee and ankle.

While most injuries are superficial, the worrying factor will be the ankle and knee as he got treated at Max, Dehradun. However, being a centrally-contracted BCCI cricketer, his injury treatment was the board's prerogative. The MRIs of his injured knee and ankle couldn't be performed as there was extensive swelling and hence the degree of tear is yet to be ascertained.

However, it is understood that any sports-related injury diagnosis and prognosis for a centrally-contracted cricketer will be done by BCCI's list of doctors and the rehabilitation and recuperation will be managed by the Sports and Medical Science team at NCA led by Dr Nitin Patel.
