Sydney: Australia bowling great Shane Warne on Tuesday picked his 15-member Aussie squad for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019, which will be held in England and Wales starting on May 30.
Warne took to Twitter to share his hypothetical WC squad and wrote, “My squad of 15, Warner, Short, Finch, Smith, Maxwell, Stoinis, Carey, Cummins, Starc, Richardson J (if fit), Zampa plus Marsh S, N Lyon, A Turner, Coulter-Nile thoughts followers? Agree ?.”
Warne made a bold move by dropping Australia's ODI regular Usman Khawaja from his World Cup squad. Interestingly, Khawaja is also the leading run-scorer in the limited overs game in 2019. So far, the left-hander batsman has amassed 769 runs at an average of 59.15 from 13 games. Khawaja is also the joint fastest to 1000 ODI runs for Australia. He has taken just 27 innings to reach the mark of 1000 ODI runs.
Warne's World Cup squad also included Ashton Turner and Darcy Short. While the leg-spinner picked Short in his playing XI, Turner was included as a back-up option.
