ICC elite panel of umpires to have no Indian representatives

Ravi was promoted to the Elite panel in June 2015, the first Indian  after S Venkatraghavan who retired in 2004.

Mumbai : Sundaram Ravi, is set to be axed from the ICC elite panel of umpires.

The decision was taken at the ICC Umpires Committee meeting on April 24. He was however chosen as one of the 16 umpires to officiate the World Cup,

Ravi was promoted to the Elite panel in June 2015, the first Indian after S Venkatraghavan who retired in 2004.

The Elite panel is a tough place to survive in with so much competition from the fellow umpires and huge-pressures, of the top-level games. Ravi was lying at the bottom among those 12 elite umpires . A report card prepared by the elite panel reflected the position of Ravi..

The 53-year-old was under fire during an IPL match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians after he failed to spot a no-ball from Lasith Malinga. It was the last ball of the match with RCB needing seven to win which left RCB captain Virat Kohli fire the umpire.

Will have no Indian representative in the elite panel of umpires

The ICC has a proper system in place which evaluates an umpire’s performance throughout the year.

Nobody , including Sanjay Manjrekar who attended the meeting , was available for any comments.
